Treatments

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an evidence based treatment and helps us understand the link between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

We’d start by doing a thorough assessment to understand what any current difficulties are and what it is you’d like to work towards; both during and after treatment.

The aim of CBT is to essentially become your own therapist, so throughout the sessions we go through different techniques to manage and improve any difficulties you’re having.

Towards the end of treatment, we will also devise a plan for you to continue your progress for when the sessions come to an end.

I am also registered with a few different insurance providers, so please let me know if you have private insurance that you will be using to access therapy. Please check with your insurance provider that they will cover your treatment before starting therapy.

  • Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (I-CBT)

I-CBT is a type of therapy that is used specifically for the treatment of OCD. It can be particularly helpful when Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) has been challenging or not been as effective as hoped.

I-CBT takes a slightly different approach to CBT for OCD as it holds the view that obsessions are a product of prior reasoning that has created doubt and mistrust in the senses.

I-CBT can include ERP as part of the treatment protocol, but it is optional and not the first thing we’d do as a treatment intervention.

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is designed to process difficult memories or distressing experiences. It’s commonly used in the treatment of trauma, but is not limited to this.

EMDR taps into the brains natural ability for healing and recovery and supports us in seeing a different perspective.

In EMDR treatment, you don’t have to recall in great detail what happened. It can also be used when parts of the memory are missing or experiences can’t be recalled, but emotions or physical sensations are felt.

Preparation work is completed prior to the processing sessions. Similarly with CBT, after the processing is complete, we’d develop a plan for you to continue your progress after treatment has come to an end.
